PORT ORANGE
Established just after the Civil War, Port Orange had a fairly long, proud and uneventful history. It retained a resort-like character and a relatively stable population for well over a century. Then in the mid 1970’s, the decision was made to extend Dunlawton Avenue from the FEC railroad to Interstate 95… and the growth has been non-stop. But the residents of Port Orange had a vision beyond the norm. They dreamed of a community that integrated residential, business and recreational areas.
With many distinctive neighborhoods – each offering certain amenities and home styles based on location, natural surroundings and demand, there is a home here for all seekers. Commercial areas were set aside for businesses to support the community and its residents, and local roadways are built to connect major thoroughfares and make commuting a breeze.
Impressive to be sure – but it doesn’t end there. Thinking far into the future – 5, 10, 20 years and more, the community asked all the right questions – how can Port Orange continue to grow, providing the highest quality of life for its residents and attracting new business for years to come? How can the city progress in a positive direction maintaining the standards of living vital to those that live, work and play here?
The result is a unique community flush with friendly neighborhoods, winding tree-lined streets, unmatched public services, shops, restaurants and homes available for any level of living. Recreation is as varied and rich as anywhere on the east coast, with fishing and golf ringing in as the most popular. The public schools are progressive and five universities are within driving distance. With this ideal location, just south of Daytona Beach and only one hour from Orlando, Port Orange is perfect for growing or starting a family, or a business or both. The dream of Port Orange has come true – a wonderful place to live, evolving into a one-in-a-million community.
